The Willmore Family Of Rosebery Avenue Cheam

Alfred John Willmore was born in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire on the 30th October 1864. He was the oldest child of John Howson Willmore and his wife Louisa Fanny Willmore (Nee Chew). In 1896 Alfred married Edith Attwood Withers in Edmonton, Middlesex and the couple moved to Luccombe, Rosebery Road Cheam, Surrey. They had two daughters Doris Mabel and Gladys Edith. In the early 1920s, the family moved to Woodside, Deepdene Park, Dorking, and later to a house called Deepdene, Somersbury Lane, Cranleigh, Surrey. Alfred died on the 15th December 1939 aged 75 and his wife Edith in 1952.

Their daughter Gladys, in this photo, continued to live with her sister Doris at Cranleigh. The sisters didn’t marry and worked as dog breeders. Gladys died in 1976 and Doris in 1981.
