Arthur Heude Roughton (1850-1910)

Arthur Heude Roughton was born in 1850 in Kettering, Northamptonshire. He was the eldest son of the nine sons of James John Roughton and Eliza Ann Roghton (Nee Woolley) and was the elder brother of George Woodford Roughton in the previous post. Arthur’s fatherJames was a General Practioner.

In 1869, Arthur entered St John’s College Cambridge, and following this entered the London Stock Exchange. In 1878 he married Mary Charlotte Lindsay at St Peter and St Paul, Kettering. The couple had one son called Lindsay born in August 1882. Sadly, Lindsay died only a few weeks later in September 1882.

Arthur and Mary lived at 34, Victoria Street, Westminster for many years. Arthur died on the 19th March 1910 aged 60 and his address at the time was given as Wonford House, Heavitree, Devon. After George’s death Mary moved to Ealing to live with her 82 year old widowed mother and her unmarried sister Annie, she died in 1929 her last address recorded as 56, Dover Road, Walmer, Kent.
